more musical musings

I have been thinking about song lyrics lately. So many of them say things that I think most people would only dream of actually saying. I guess I am mostly talking about the "I can't live without you" type things, you know unrequited love or breaking up or things like that. Some of those lines sound downright foolish. But I am guessing more of us actually have thought those things and wished to say them than we would actually admit. Songs say a lot of things we feel, but can't or won't express on our own. As I think about it, some things sound so foolish, but it actually takes a huge amount of guts and psyching up to actually say them. So if that much thought goes into it, is it really foolish? I was telling my friend yesterday about something my 94 year old grandpa told me 4 years ago. He told me, "If you love someone, you tell him!" A song lyric from the band I saw last night (Fruit Bats) was "When you love somebody and bite your tongue all you get is a mouthful of blood". An interesting way of saying it, but it makes a good point: you don't get anything good out of keeping yourself from telling someone you love them!
