future travels

I decided when I got back from Hong Kong in March that I really want to go on one trip per year that is purely for fun. In the past few years, most of my vacation time has been used for family visits. I really, really love spending time with my family, but I want to go other places than Indiana and Saskatchewan too! Fortunately, my vacation time increased this year after 4 years of working at my current job (yikes!), so I have a little more time to work with. I don't have that much more money, unfortunately, but I want to make traveling more of a priority, so I will make it work!

Does anyone have any suggestions for my next destination? It would have to be a little cheaper than my big Hong Kong trip last year, since I do have a few other family visit trips in the next year that I am not willing to give up.

Habla Espanol? Much of our hemisphere is within striking distance of Seattle and knowing Spanish is a key to exploring it. Central America, especially Guatemala, Honduras, or Costa Rica, might provide you some welcome relief from the continually overcast and rainy months of November through February.

Have you considered combining your vacation with a mission trip to your destination of choice? There are some organizations that offer package deals like this at reasonable prices. Global Expeditions or Adventures in Missions offer trips to a variety of impoverished and uninformed places that could benefit from your elbow grease and warm smile.

Well done on staying committed to something long enough to reap the rewards from what you've sown. Now you've got to figure out how to enjoy those blessings, which is almost as much fun.
