The next day we drove up to near La Conner where some church friends have a cabin on the waterfront of the Puget Sound. They led us on a hike to a beach on the Puget Sound at low tide.

We walked back to the cabin for lunch, then went kayaking in the Sound between the mainland and Whidbey Island. There were 5 of us with 3 single kayaks and 1 double. Abbe and I started off in the double kayak, which was hilarious, because it kept veering off to the right. Yes, there were waves and wind pushing in that direction, but we weren't convinced that the rudder was functioning. The best moment was when we had to do a complete 360 degree turn to the right in order to get further to the left to go ashore! We compared ourselves to a three-legged dog. I tried a single kayak for the last leg of our afternoon journey, and it was much easier. I was zigzagging a bit at first, but I figured it out pretty quick. We capped off the wonderful
