lots of good stuff going on

I haven't written much lately, but I have been having lots of good times. Last weekend was pretty hot and summery, which was kind of uncomfortable in my west-facing apartment, but I didn't complain too much, because I was so happy it is summer!! I spent a lot of time outside by Green Lake, walked to Golden Gardens (beach park) with Abbe, and I went to a barbecue at Jen & Chris' which was fun.

I had last Monday off, so my friend Telia and I went for coffee and walked around the lake. It was so great to see her and catch up after not seeing her for 3 months, actually since she had just gotten pregnant, and didn't know yet. Now she is 18 weeks along and starting to show. Time flies and things change fast! She told me that her husband Nathan's grandma "Mormor" died in June. She was a lovely woman, who always remembered me from the first time I met her two and a half years ago. She was practically deaf, so you had to write notes to her to converse with her. She could do some lip reading, but her vision was pretty bad too. She was always so encouraging and friendly. She always complimented me and made me feel special. I know her last few years of her life were frustrating both for herself and for Nathan's parents who spent so much time with her, caring for her. She was ready to die, so I guess it's good that she's finally at peace with God, but her presence will definitely be missed here.

Last Monday I also went to the Green Lake wading pool with Amy and Naomi. She looked super cute in her little bikini!

On Wednesday evening I went to a surprise birthday party for my friend Danny. That was a really fun time. I got to play some krokinole, which is a game which is loved in Canadian Mennonite circles, which I always played at extended family Christmas gatherings. It was fun to introduce it to people who didn't know about it. During the party a thunderstorm started, which lasted all night long. That is so unusual for here!

Thursday was Ladies' Night at the Mariners game, and Heidi, Abbe, Anna, Regina and her sister Allie and I went to the game. We sat way out in the center field bleachers, which I had never done before. We had a good time.

Yesterday was the 4th of July so Abbe, Regina, Allie, Anna, Brendan, and I went to watch the fireworks by Lake Union. We got yummy (expensive) deli food from Whole Foods and had a little picnic there early so we could have a good spot to watch the fireworks.

That's the latest news from me. I am so grateful that summer is really here, and for great friends.
