snowfall

Snow is falling in Seattle! It's really beautiful, and definitely adds ambiance to the start of the Christmas season. Yesterday I helped Abbe get a real Christmas tree for her apartment. How fitting to have a snowfall too. I do think of the people that are coming back from Thanksgiving, especially through the mountain passes, and I hope it's not too bad on the roads and people are being careful. I hope tomorrow won't be too much of a headache getting to work. This city comes to a standstill if there's any sort of accumulation of snow. They just don't have the equipment to deal with it (if you only need snowploughs once every couple of years, what's the point in having a whole bunch?), plus there are lots of big hills, and people just freak out because they're not used to it.

Speaking of Christmasyness (?), I have the new Sarah McLachlan Christmas album Wintersong which is really good. She covers "Song for Winter's Night", originally (I think) by Gordon Lightfoot, one of my dad's old favorite musicians. What a beautiful song, which is really reflective of my heart this Christmas season...
